Bread & Cheese

It’s just bread

And cheese.

But the bread

Came out of my oven.

And the smooth

Soft texture

And subtle flavor

Give away

The potato

That was mashed

To go in it.

And the cheese,

Tartly crumbly.

Good, aged

Sharp cheddar

With a bite.

It’s not the showy

Hot and bubbly

Cheese and potato

Of potatoes

Au gratin.

It’s just lunch.
