Childhood Joy

1 3 15 b

In a tree

above the earth

that’s where childhood joys materialize

muted only by childhood fears

that will surely dissipate.

Rather, they multiply.

How to then cling to childhood joy and awe

in the face of mounting fears.

Go back to the tree and her limbs above the ground.

Ride your bike to school.

Walk in mountain wildflowers.

Swim in alpine lakes.

Hang tightly to the only antidote to fear.
